I'm 34 years old, happily married to my best friend, and together we have one independent girl and two silly little boys who light up our lives!

If I had to pick one word to describe myself......I suppose it would have to be random.  My interests and passions seem to span a rather broad and random spectrum.  Just take my journey to photography as an example.....

After graduating from high school, I played college football for a bit, before deciding I wanted more of a challenge.  So I joined the United States Army, and got the challenge I was seeking becoming an Airborne and Air Assault soldier.  In the army, I explored different countries and took so many photos.   When I met and married my wife, I was honorably discharged and began to make a living by working as a manager at Old Navy, then a manager at a local Movie Theater, then a Police Officer for a couple of years. A couple of years later, while my wife was in nursing school we found out she was pregnant, and I took my dream job, mentoring pre-teens and teens.  I love kids, and am indeed passionate about uplifting our youth.  But, when I delved into the  world of photography, something within me changed. While being a mentor was still a great job, it suddenly wasn't enough.  So, instead of giving up the best job I ever had to pursue something that felt more like a force, than a job, I combined them. Photography HAS been a force in my life, blowing in, nearly unexpected, and has rocked the boat of my safe little life plan in many wonderful ways.

I guess the safe plan isn't always the best plan, though, is it?!!

I've shot almost 100 weddings since I began this crazy adventure, and  countless  portrait sessions.  Each person has left an indelible stamp on my life.  Each  life  I've encountered has felt right, like I belong in this place, doing this thing.  And there is happiness and peace in that knowledge.

My name is Walter Kennard and I am a SENIOR portrait photographer in  Wytheville, Virginia.   Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know and look forward to crossing paths soon.
